How did Hubert de Givenchy influence fashion in the 80s? – So the Givenchy fashion house and perfume house was founded by Hubert de Gicenchy. He was a fashion designer of aristocratic origin. And he designed clothes for celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy.

In 1970 he was inducted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. Born in 1927 into a Protestant family. His aristocratic family roots go back to Venice, Italy.

Firstly he made his first designs in 1945. In ’52 he opened his own design house. Secondly he specialised in versatile cotton shirts. And he first met Audrey Hepburn in 1953, on the set of the film Sabrina. The actress became the fashion designer’s most prominent admirer.

So in the 1960s, she created dresses with an elegant look rather than a casual look. And this trend was reinforced in the 1980s, making her a dominant figure in 80s fashion.

Finally in the 1980s, the Ford division in the United States launched a Givenchy label. It began with the launch of the Continental Mark IV in 1976. The Givenchy fashion house was dissolved in 1981. And the perfume division was acquired by Veuve Cicquot and the fashion division by LVMH in 1989.
