What do you need to know about the New Romantic subculture? – In the UK, an underground movement called New Romantic started in the late 70s. It developed in nightclubs in London and Birmingham. The movement was an expression of flamboyant, eccentric fashion.

It was inspired by fashion boutiques such as Kahn and Bell and the London PX. When the subculture was formed, its members were initially known as Blitz Kids, New Dandies and Romantic Rebels.

The new romantic fashion was influenced by music artists such as David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Roxy Music. It was influenced by the glam rock era, but also by the romanticism of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
